Slaughtering Sacred Cows

Peter van Onselen, Wayne Errington
These are among the sacred cows of Australian politics: the solutions our political leaders are unwilling or unable to discuss, much less adopt. When such solutions are offered, leaders rule them out immediately rather than face the wrath of interest groups and zealots. And when public opinion shifts, as it has on the question of euthanasia, political leaders are incapable of reflecting the popular view.

This book sets out fifteen issues where our political system seems frozen. We talk about the possibilities and the obstacles of achieving real change.

It's time for some slaughtering of sacred political cows.
