Peter Doherty Book Launch at Readings

Join us for the launch of Empire, War, Tennis and Me by Peter Doherty.

Empire, War, Tennis and Me is a personal yet unsentimental memoir of sorts. Here, Laureate Professor Peter Doherty unearths the unique history of tennis and nationalism. Doherty identifies the origins of modern tennis within its imperial context and discovers unlikely connections between the game, its players and national militaries. Doherty personalises this account through discovered letters from his tennis-loving uncles who found connection and meaning through the sport during World War II.
