Gillian Triggs


Professor Emerita Gillian Triggs was appointed by the UN Secretary General as Assistant Secretary General and Assistant High Commissioner Protection with UNHCR, in 2019. Prior to this position she served as President of the Australian Human Rights Commission from 2012 to 2017, was Chair of Justice Connect, President of the Asian Development Bank Administrative Tribunal, Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Chair of the UN Independent Expert Panel on Abuse of Office and Harassment in UNAIDS. Triggs was Dean of the Faculty of Law and Challis Professor of International Law at the University of Sydney from 2007 to 2012 and Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law from 2005 to 2007.
